Major Changes to the Target Beauty Department

In the past month, several of you have told me that your Target store's beauty department has been completely stripped, indicating a major overhaul. If you have noticed this happening at YOUR local Target this month, consider yourself very lucky!

According to this article on Zee Report, Target is overhauling their beauty department in a very big way, starting with 750 stores (I'm assuming the change will happen at more stores eventually, but it's happening NOW at 750 stores across the nation).

So what will you be able to find in the newly-revamped Target beauty department? Keep reading for the details (and some pics, too)!

From Zee Report:
The changes will first be visible this month in the 750 Target doors outfitted with its newly installed premium skin-care assortment, which is anchored by Amore Pacific’s South Korean skin-care range Laneige. The line will be exclusive to Target in the U.S. The concept, which ranges from 4 to 8 linear feet, also is occupied by six more brands, including MD Complete, Borghese Age Defying Cellulare Complex, Vichy, La Roche-Posay, 29 by Lydia Mondavi and Own Beauty.
...The beauty overhaul, Target’s most extensive update to the category since 2001, also includes the addition of Carol’s Daughter and two British hair-care lines from PZ Cussons, Fudge Urban and Charles Worthington London Salon Home.

Very exciting news, right? Reader Marlene (@marleeeney on Instagram) shared with me this pic of the full Laneige display at her local Target. After I posted that pic on my Instagram, I heard from Laneige US directly on Twitter and they confirmed that their products will be sold exclusively at Target in the US, and you can also purchase them directly from the Target website here.

And actually, the other brands listed in the Zee Report article are also now available on the Target website. Here are the links if you want to take a look:

Carol's Daughter
Fudge Urban
Charles Worthington
MD Complete
Borghese Age Defying Cellulare Complex
Vichy
La Roche-Posay
Own Beauty
29 by Lydia Mondavi

What's funny is that I actually discovered the 29 by Lydia Mondavi products on the Target website a while back, and if you follow me on Instagram, I mentioned that I was very excited to see that her First Crush Lip Scrub retails for $10 at Target (the exact tube retails for $24 on both the Birchbox website and on the 29 by Lydia Mondavi website).  I can't wait to try it (especially at that price) since I'm a longtime fan of Mondavi wines!

The Target store I visited last weekend here in San Diego did not seem to be overhauling their skincare department, but I DID happen to see some Carol's Daughter haircare products in the haircare aisle, which was quite exciting. Here they are:

So even if your Target doesn't look like it's getting the new skincare overhaul, you'll probably be able to find the new haircare products in the haircare aisle.

Between this overhaul news and the new Shea Moisture color cosmetics that are coming to Target any minute now, it's quite exciting to have such easy access to so many new and/or harder-to-find products, right?

Have you noticed a major overhaul happening at YOUR local Target? Are you excited to see these brands in person?

  1. I wonder if that's what has been going on in my target! The entire beauty department is practically empty! In several sections there are like three or four things! Hmmmmm, so much sense...I'll keep my eye open next time I head in.

  2. Why did they remove plus size clothes? They are all gone :(

    1. Target goes in cycles where they have a great selection of plus size clothes and then a terrible one. They're in the terrible part of it. The Targets I've been to all have a few small racks with plus size clothes and I don't think any of them label the department any more. I'm hoping they'll get more soon.

    2. I've noticed this at my Target and it pisses me off so bad. I love Target but when it comes to plus size they just plain suck!

    3. They're revamping their plus size department, not getting rid of it.

    4. Im a Target team Member. They got rid of the is clothes in anticipation of all new lines. Unfortunately, the date of the new set keeps pushing back and we still haven't received word of when they are coming in.

  3. The Target closest to me is doing this renovation right now, while another Target is still clearancing out cosmetics, and yet another Target hasn't even started their clearance yet. (I spend WAY too much time at Targets.) I have kind of mixed feelings about it, because the cosmetics/skin care area isn't any larger than it was before, so they have to be cutting brands, or at least cutting back on the number of items from each brand, in order to add these new, more expensive brands that I'm not that excited about...

    1. I'm glad you said it first, Kara. I was at my Target and was relieved I didn't see the renovations because I don't want a bunch of expensive hair and skin care to take the place of the less expensive brands.

  4. Target and I broke up along time ago, and I'm glad for it since the whole credit card fiasco happened.

My loves are CVS and Rite Aid. Sometimes I cheat on them with Walgreens. These places have better return policies and a more intimate shopping experience.

  5. I actually saw Shea Cosmetics in a target store in LA. Didn't get to take a picture though =/

  6. I have noticed a lot of clearance - but it is mostly things that were on clearance at CVS/Walgreens earlier. I have also seen a lot of skincare on clearance, especially in the natural/organic area. I have noticed that the store has this new "beauty advisor" she wear a black jacket and walks around the cosmetics/skincare section and asks people if they need help and what they are looking for. There is even a sign with a schedule of when she'll be there. Sadly, I have heard her give some not very good product advice. Maybe she will be up on the new brands coming in?

  8. I've gotta go and see if my Target is included. I'm guessing it isn't since it's a small store, but I'll be on the look out for a Target that is. I'm excited about Carol's Daughter, OWN, Laneige, and I'm not familiar with 20 by Mondavi, sounds cool. Do you know if Amore Pacific is the same as their Laneige line? I've been eager to try an Amore pacific eye cream but not sure if Laneige is the same line or different. Thanks for posting

  9. I noticed this at my target the other day! I saw Own, 29, LRP, Vichy, etc.

  10. The changes also seem to happen much later than your mention in atlanta! I'm so excited about laneige! They have some amazing moisturizer and sleeping masks! Cross my fingers that we will see these soon!

  11. Just today I went to Target and saw a brand new beauty department, and I'm really excited about it. It looks like certain brands get less space, but the displays are more vertically oriented now. The lighting is better and there are lots of new items, even from the brands that aren't completely new. I've always hated the lighting, and I'm so glad they've updated it.

  12. I noticed at my local target they were clearancing NYX eyeshadow palettes (not the largest palettes though). I thought that was a bit strange.

  13. I was excited to see the Carol's Daughter products on the shelf, but I wonder if there is a list (available to the public) somewhere to find which Targets are undergoing this revamp.

  14. I'm so excited! I love la roche posay and charles worthington products!

  16. How exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing the Laneige, Vichy, and La Roche-Posay at my Target.

  17. WOW! I discovered the Charles Worthington volumizing shampoo and conditioner YEARS ago in a random drugstore in Canada, and I remember falling head over heels in love with them. But since they were on clearance there (yes, they were being cleared out of stores like 7 years ago!), they became impossible to find, not to mention I was only there for a few months. Now I can go scout it out now! I have majorly straight Asian hair and that's the only thing I remember really making a difference for me :D

  18. My closest Target did this only a few years ago and the entire beauty department was dropped right in the middle of the kids department. It was a total mess and various products were broken and smashed on the carpet. Hopefully they don't do that again.

  19. My store is doing the revamp the week of 4/20!! It's a week long, overnight process but I'm excited to see the process and the new products!

    1. I wonder if my store is going to get this revamp. I haven't heard anything about it yet, but we're also at the tail end of a remodel to become PFresh, so things are a little crazy. Our HBA department didn't change as much as I expected. At least the new cosmetics fixtures are nicer looking.

  20. I subscribe to a newsletter from a natural hair company called OYIN Handmade, and this week's newsletter announced that they too will be selling their products in Target.

    1. This is the one I'm super excited about. I love Oyin Handmade and can't wait to be able to pick up what I want right off the shelf. I couldn't believe it when I saw the email. Good news indeed!

  21. I'm mostly excited about Carol's Daughter and Shea Moisture's Cosmetic line. As a woman of color, it can be difficult to find my shade in a drugstore. Most of the major lines (Loreal, Revlon, Rimmel, Almay, Neutrogena, and even ELF) can have a huge range of light to medium skin tone products and only have 1 or 2 for deeper tones. While CoverGirl does have the Queen Collection, it's not sold everywhere and is difficult to find as well. Hopefully other makeup companies will take notice of Shea Moisture filling that market for deeper complexions and expand their collections.

  22. I can't say I'm too excited about these brands. I wish they were adding international budget brands instead of expensive skin care and hair care. The only one I really want to try is Carol's Daughter since my hair ends get so dry in the winter and I have heard a ton of great things about the brand. I admit that I might get excited if I see great reviews for these unknown-to-me brands for me to try though.

  23. I hope this explains the state of the last two Targets I've visited. Their makeup sections looked ransacked. I'm excited about the Carol's Daughter line and seeing more SheaMoisture products. I hope Target keeps some affordable products, too, though. And it'd be nice if they had more safety-sealed cosmetics. There are way too many products there that have obviously been opened and applied. Yuck.

  24. One of the Targets in my area is definitely getting this overhaul. Over half of the beauty isles were on clearance a couple weeks ago. I might have just let out a little squeak of excitement about Charles Worthington London Salon Home coming to the US. I have read so many good things about their melting balm on UK blogs.

  25. ouch! I just looked at the Target website and these brands are too pricey for me. I mean, good on Target for introducing international lines of beauty products and I hope it does well but I'll be sticking with Rimmel, WnW and paulas choice for skin care.

    1. I know! Why can't they get Sleek products instead of these expensive ones. Or some of the many Korean makeup brands, I wouldn't mind paying more for the adorable packaging and the products tend to get high marks anyway.

  26. My bf works at target so he told me high volume targets are getting remodeled. A big part of it is the beauty section.

  27. Just wondering - is the 29 lip scrub better than the ELF lip scrub? They look very similar and the ELF one (which is my favorite) is only $3... which is crazy.

    1. Sorry for the confusion, but I mentioned in my post that I can't wait to try the 29 lip scrub, meaning I haven't tried it yet, so I cannot compare it to the elf version. Sorry!

  28. This is the one I'm excited about. I am a big Oyin Handmade fan and can't wait to be able to pick up whatever I like right off the shelf in my local Target. I couldn't believe it when I saw the email. Good news indeed!

  29. If they bring Laneige skincare, hopefully they will bring the Laneige cosmetic line as well. I have been wanting their new lipsticks but it is difficult to get a hold of. Only a few colors are available online.

  30. Wow! Soooo excited! I love Laneige! Just when I thought I couldn't love Target more, they go and pull this on me, amazing :)

  31. OMg I love Charles Worthington! Walgreens carried it 100 years ago then discontinued it. ALL of his products were awesome... especially his hairbrushes. I hope they carry those too.

  32. I'm glad to see carols daughter being sold in target.

I noticed the overhaul at a target on 280 in Alabama.

  33. I wonder if my Target will be getting these brands. I'd seen a lot more scarcity among the beauty aisles lately... I wonder if this is why. I hope so! I haven't heard of these brands or products before -- I will definitely start looking into them! Guess it's time for another Target run XD

  34. I am very excited about Laneige coming to Target! If anyone is interested in finding out which targets near them are getting Laneige, you can check on their website http://us.laneige.com/en/shop/locations.html
